Did you hear the cowbells in Firestone Park Baptist church?
It's been awhile since this part of Akron heard cowbells in their natural environment. The development that Akron saw in the 1920s made any farm-land for grazing cattle a thing of black and white photos. Yet, on Sunday cowbells were heard again in Firestone Park.
We are thrilled that the Akron marathon's course will be coming through our neighborhood this Saturday for the tenth running of the fantastic Akron Marathon. Firestone Park is an official cheer team for the marathon as it comes through the neighborhood. So, we have cowbells in hand, and we are going to be part of this community event.
Firestone Park is rich with churches of all shapes and sizes...and this weekend we will be a church that is "present" in our community. We will be an incarnate organism that embraces our call and purpose and imitate the ways of our Savior. I am sure that Jesus would have been a lead-cheerer if a marathon course wrapped its way through his neighborhood...I am sure that Jesus is still our leading cheerer as we "run this race" on earth!
We cheer because we are being cheered by Him!
Come out this Saturday (9/29/2012) at 7:00 am and be part of the imitation of our Savior.
