Eat, Pray, Love...or....

She was newly divorced.  Her world was different than the little girl’s dream.  She felt that her world was falling apart?  She needed to find herself.  So Elizabeth Gilbert decided to take a pilgrimage…a quest to find herself.  She could have allowed life and her divorce to rob her of vitality, yet she found the strength to begin a journey.  A journey that would take her to Italy, India, and Bali.  A one-year journey that would revolve around eating, praying, and loving.

My story is not much different from Gilberts.  I imagine that your story is similar as well.  There are some issues that are organic in all people.  Life is a struggle.  There is pain in life.  People will disappoint.  People will fail you.  The question is whether we will find strength to set out on a journey that brings healing and wholeness?  We do not have to travel the world for a year, because our answer is found in the words of Jesus.

Long before Gilbert’s book, Eat, Pray, Love, was a bestseller, Jesus gave some core instructions that if embraced will bring healing and wholeness.

Those core values are foundational to the vitality of the Christian life.  If we embrace them, then our journey will be anchored in the graces of God, and not in the pain of the fall.

We find those core values in Mark’s gospel (Mark 11:22-26).  You know them.  You have been raised hearing them in church.  But, why do we struggle to embrace them?  Put down Gilbert’s book, and embrace instead: Faith, Prayer, Forgiveness!

This Sunday, we continue our study in Mark's Gospel.  Come out, and hear the story of health and wholenss from Jesus' perspective.
