Children running around...

Here at Firestone Park Baptist we like to meet every month, or so, for a meal together as the church family.  It is a cool thing to do as a church.  It reveals who uses a knife when eating, and who eats like an American (sans knife in right hand).  It reveals who has the gift of "helps," as there is always someone spilling something (just like at home!).  It reveals who doubles-up on carbs, and who keeps carbs to one portion.

This Sunday was especially exciting as the fellowship hall was comfortably full, and people were sitting around tables and enjoying the food and fellowship...soon however, the fun began.  The church was "full" of young people who had enough of eating, and started running around enjoying one another...

Then, they spotted the pastor.

Then, they spotted the new pastor.

Then, they spotted the new pastor who was buttoned-up still in a suit.

One intrepid young person, looked at the pastor with fear in her eyes, and asked if it was "ok" that they were running around the church playing "hide-n-seek?"

The pastor looked at the child and said, "I am not a curator of a museum."  Well, that was not a response that communicated with the child...

God enjoys it when the church has young people in it.  It was good to see that there were teens and adolescents at the fellowship meal.  God enjoys it when we are enjoying one another: whether with a coffee and desert after a meal or playing hide-n-seek.

How should have the new pastor responded to the query of the child wanting to play "hide-n-seek?"  I wished them well, and told them to have a bunch of fun.

A family...a church...a people of God...the church is a place where children can worship and have fun, and see both as life for and to God.  Life is too short not to play "hide-n-seek."

Enjoy.
